About IPT – Old

Is it possible to make a living as a writer?

Louisa May Alcott took up writing to support her impoverished family. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, while waiting for clients that never showed up at his medical practice, idled away the hours writing fiction–then found his books more lucrative and became a full-time author.

Somehow, in the modern era, this doesn’t work. By the time the editors are paid, the cover designers are paid, the publicists are paid, the printer is paid, and the supply of paper and ink are paid … the author earns enough to take some friends out for a celebratory coffee.

But change is on the horizon …

Indie publishing is the biggest plot twist ever to hit the publishing industry. Stories are circulating that authors with the right mix of storytelling talent and marketing savvy are not only selling well but making a living by publishing independently.

So we thought, what the heck? Why not give it a try?
